Stephanie “Cyclone” Wells was an original founding member of the Renegades after a career as an Air Force pilot, a NASA pilot, and as an inspector for the FAA. Her Air Force career spanned instructing in four different aircraft – the T-37, T-38, WC-130, and C-5. She joined the NASA Johnson Space Center team as a staff pilot while flying C-5’s in the reserves. As a NASA pilot she flew the G-I and G-II Gulfstream (modified to be a Space Shuttle trainer), T-38 and KC-135 “Zero-Gravity” plane. She finished her flying career as an operations inspector at the Denver FAA Flight Standards District Office. She flew her RV-7 with the Renegades, and continues to fly it in various formation events. She is also a partner in a Cessna 182 which she flies to do volunteer work in Guatemala. Stephanie lives in Arvada, Colorado and has one son, also a pilot.
Steve “Pinto” Lindsey flies an RV-8. A retired USAF Colonel, Steve graduated from the United States Air Force Academy, completing pilot training in 1983 and Test Pilot School in 1989. During active duty, he served as a Fighter Pilot, Instructor Pilot and Experimental Test Pilot, flying all variants of the F-4 and F-16. In 1995, Steve was selected to be a NASA Astronaut. While at NASA, he piloted 2 and commanded 3 Space Shuttle missions. Steve also served as Chief of the Astronaut Office and was inducted into the US Astronaut Hall of Fame in 2015. After NASA, Steve served as Sr Vice President and Chief Technology & Strategy Officer for a major aerospace company. He has over 7,500 hours of flight time in more than 60 different aircraft types and has accumulated over 2 months in space, orbiting the earth almost 1000 times. Steve and his wife Diane live in Superior, CO and have 3 grown children and 5 grandchildren.

Amy was the Renegade narrator for the last several years. She has extensive experience in local theater and choral groups and has been around aviation for most of her adult life, so she was a natural as the "voice of the Rocky Mountain Renegades." Amy has called Colorado home since 1986 and currently lives in Evergreen with her husband Steve, who is Renegade #7. Amy and Steve have 2 daughters, Justine and Monica, a granddaughter, Darwin, and a grandson, Wright.
Bob “Wizard” Markert was the Renegade Opposing Solo pilot and flies a RV-8 he built. He attended Army pilot training in 1974. In 1980 he switched services and earned his Air Force wings and flew the F-15. After 16 years active duty he transferred to the National Guard. Bob spent over 34 years in military cockpits and has flown the F-15 Eagle, AH-1G/F Cobra, AH-64 Apache Attack helos, UH-1 Huey, OH-58 Scout, and C-26 aircraft. He started his Airline career in 1988 and has flown the DC9, 727, 737, 747, 757, 767, 777, and A320. Bob flunked retirement from United Airlines and is currently flying a Citation X for a charter company. He holds a degree in Technical Aeronautics from Tennessee State University and a Master’s degree in Intermodal Transportation Mgmt from the University of Denver. Bob and his wife Mary live in Littleton, CO. They have two grown daughters and 6 Grandkids.

Jim "Mad Dog" Sherry was one of the original founding members of the Renegades, and flies an RV-8 that he built. Jim attended the University of Rhode Island and has masters degrees from USC and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. After college, he entered the Air Force and earned his Air Force pilot wings in 1971. Jim flew the T-41, T-37, T-38 and the KC-135 Tanker, and is a combat veteran of both the Vietnam and Gulf Wars. After 8 years of active duty, he continued for 14 more years in the New Jersey Air National Guard where he retired as a LtCol. Jim recently completed 30 years of commercial aviation and retired from Delta Air Lines while accumulating over 25,000 hours of total flight time, having flown the DC-9, B727, B757, and the B747-200 & -400. Jim and his wife Ruth live in Boulder, Colorado and have 2 children. Colleen works as a microbiologist in Denver. John is a lawyer in Denver.
It is with great sadness that Ed “Sabre” O’Connor, one of the original founding members of the Renegades, passed away in 2021. Ed grew up in Iowa and started flying at the age of 17. He graduated from Missouri State Teachers College and entered the Air Force as a Second Lieutenant, graduating from Air Force Pilot Training in 1969. Ed served 21 years in the Air Force, flying F-100s, O-2As, OV-10s, F-4s and E-9s. After retirement, he was hired by Northwest Airlines and flew B727s, DC-9s, Flight Engineer on the B747 and retired from Northwest Airlines / Delta Air Lines as a Captain on the A-320. Ed had accumulated over 18,000 hours flying time including over 500 hours of combat flight hours in Vietnam. Ed is survived by his wife Lisa, two daughters, a step son and step daughter. May he rest in peace.

Steve "G-Man" Bergevin was the Renegade "Wildman" Solo, flying a Giles G-202 which he built over the course of 7 years. He started flying gliders in 1973, when he was too young to drive, earned his Private Pilot License in High School, and kept adding ratings through ATP, CFII-ME, and Flight Engineer. He graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, with an Aeronautical Engineering degree, and worked as a design engineer and factory flight instructor for Piper Aircraft. He has been a pilot for a major airline since 1985, and is currently a B-787 Captain based in Denver. Steve has won several trophies at Fly-Ins, and Aerobatic Contests, and given hundreds of "Thrill of a Lifetime" rides to people. He and his wife Amy have 2 daughters, Justine and Monica, a granddaughter, Darwin, and a grandson, Wright.

Scott “Ginsu” Ginn was the Renegade Slot pilot and flies an RV-8. He soloed in gliders at the age of 14 and comes from a family of pilots, including his grandfather, mother, father, and brother. He began his flying career in the US Army, where he flew the UH-60 Blackhawk. Realizing his “need for speed” Scott transferred to US Air Force pilot training, flying the T-37, A/T-38 and ultimately the F-15 Eagle. He is currently a 777 Captain for United Airlines, having flown the B727, B737, B747-400, B757, B767, A320, C-130, C-21 Lear Jet, C-26 and Hughes 300/500. Sadly, his wife Diana recently passed away. Together they have two sons, (both married), a daughter, and 5 beautiful grandchildren. Scott lives in Erie, CO.
Jeff "Mach-Do" McDonald provides Renegade support flying as a wingman or slot. Jeff flies an F1Rocket Evo. He started flying in high school, later attaining his advanced ratings,. He worked as a flight instructor throughout college, graduating from the University of Minnesota. All that early flying helped foster his interest in flying fighters in the military. Jeff served in the Iowa and Colorado Air National for 23 years, having flown the A-7D and the F-16C. He just concluded a 39-year career with a major airline, having most recently flown as a B787 Captain. Jeff and his wife Denise live in Evergreen, CO.

Hans "Cobra" Miesler completed and started flying his RV-4 in 1989. He earned his pilot's license in 1968 and shortly thereafter also acquired his A&P mechanics license. Hans served in the Army and flew the AH1-G attack helicopter for a combat tour in Vietnam 71-72. In the National Guard he flew the CH-47 and UH-1 Huey. Prior to joining United Airlines in 1979, Hans flew air mail, freight and corporate aircraft. After retiring from UAL as Captain on the 767 in 2007, he became one of the charter members forming the Renegade formation team. Cobra flew his last exhibition in 2014 to allow time for competition in his Pitts S1S. Hans recently mourned the loss of his wife Mary. He still lives near Canon City and that's where his sport planes reside as well.

Chris "Twister" Murphy was the Renegade Lead Solo and flies an RV-4 that he built. He soloed on his 16th birtday and got his private pilots License at age 17. He enlisted in the USAF and was a crew chief on the F-4 Phantom earning 2 below the zone promotions. After earning his degree in Aircraft Maintenance Management he separated from the Air Force and took a position with United Airlines in Chicago. Chris transfered to flight ops in 1988 and has flown the Boeing 727, 737, 757, 767 and is currently a Denver based B-757/767 Captain. In 2008 Chris won the Sport Air Racing League National Silver Championship with his RV-4 which still holds the top speed record in its class. Chris has 3 grown children and 3 grandkids. He and his wife Lisa live in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Brian “Torch” Wampler flies an RV-8 that he completed in 2008. He started his flying career in 1968 at his hometown airport in Easton, MD and continued flying with the aero club at the University of Maryland where he graduated with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. Brian entered the Air Force in 1971 and completed initial pilot training at Columbus AFB, MS. A Vietnam Veteran, he served over 20 years of active duty service in the Air Force flying DC-6s, T-38s, C-141s, Beechcraft King Air 200s, and DC-9s. He retired from the Air Force in 1991 from Andrews AFB, MD where he flew AF II missions in the DC-9, carrying the Vice-President of the United States as well as other dignitaries. He retired from his airline career in 2014 after flying the Airbus A-320 for a major airline. Brian lives in Larkspur, CO with his wife Diane. He has 2 grown children and 2 wonderful grandkids.

Steve "Weasel" Cox was the Renegade Left Wing and flies an RV-8. He is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State, Summa Cum Laude in Aerospace Administration. He flew the T-37 and T-38 during Air Force flight training, and then RF-4's in his Kentucky Air National Guard squadron. Steve was hired with United Airlines in 1987 and is currently a Captain on the Boeing B-787. During his career, in addition to the B-787, Steve has flown the Airbus A-320, McDonnell Douglas DC-10, Boeing B-737, B-747 and B-757/767. He has accumulated over 18,000 hours of flight time in various civilian and military aircraft.
Steve lives in Evergreen, Colorado with his wife Kim. Their daughter Kellie is a graduate of Seattle University and is currently teaching in San Francisco.
Jim "Gringo" Gray was the Renegade Team Lead and founding member of the team. Jim had always said he would retire from airshow flying before he became a septuagenarian, and stayed true to his word, but still regularly flies the RV-8 that he built. Jim attended the University of Colorado and entered the United States Navy after graduation, earning his "Navy Wings of Gold" in 1977. He flew the T-34B, T-2C, TA-4J, and the F-14A Tomcat. He made 2 extended Western Pacific/Indian Ocean cruises aboard the USS Constellation and has over 300 carrier landings. Jim was hired by Northwest Airlines in 1983. Northwest merged with Delta Air Lines in 2008. Jim retired from Delta as a 747-400 Captain. During his career, he flew the B-727, B-757, and DC-10 as First Officer, and the B-727, B-757, and B-747-400 as Captain. He has accumulated over 20,000 hours of flight time during his military and airline careers. Jim and his wife Lindsey have 2 children and live in Broomfield CO. Their son Matt is an Air Traffic Controller, and their daughter Brennan is an Airline Pilot.
Sean "Spokes" Thomas was the Renegade Narrator for several years, as well as the Renegades photographer / videographer. He earned a degree in Applied Economics and Management from Cornell University, and works as a Security Analyst for a major technology corporation. Sean lives with his wife Diana in Erie, Colorado and is currently building an RV-7.
Tom “Strato” Spratt was Right Wing and later Flight Lead for the Renegades. He flies an RV-8 which he completed in 2014. Tom attended the United States Air Force Academy and graduated AF pilot training in 1978. After 7 years active duty, he transferred to the South Carolina Air National Guard. Tom flew the T-37, T-38, F-4E, and the F-16A/C. He is a veteran of the first Gulf War earning the Distinguished Flying Cross. Tom was hired by United Airlines in 1990. He has flown the DC-9, B-727, B-737, B-747-400, B-757, B-767, B-777, and was the Senior Manager of Flight Standards and an Instructor /Evaluator for the 747-400 fleet unitl the aircraft was taken out of service. He retired as a 757/767 Line Check Airman. Tom has accumulated over 13,000 hours during his combined military and airline careers. Tom and his wife Daryl now live in Tennessee. They have four grown children between them, Cassandra, Michael, Skyler and Jordan.
